6 delicious and healthy nut butters you can easily try at home

What beats this classic combo? Peanut butter and jam, nommm! The answer? A flavoured uber-delicious nut butter that has more health benefits, less sugar, or better: no added sugars or fructose, and won't even make you crave for peanuts and yam again!


Here are 6 delicious nut butters you can easily try at home. All recipes are quick and easy, all you need to do is place them in a food processor and it will do the work for you. Depending on your food processor, you will need to blend for about 5 to 10 minutes until your butter becomes smooth and creamy. 

1. Walnut and orange butter

What you will need to mix:

- 1 cup of walnuts - 1 tablespoon of honey - Zest of 1 orange

2. Zingy and zesty 'nutella'

What you'll need to mix:

- 1 cup of hazelnuts - Zest of 1 lemon - A thumb of finely grated ginger - 150 gram chocolate - 15 dates - 1/2 cup unsweetened plant-based milk (I used almond milk, but spelt, soy or oat milk will work just fine)

Mix the hazelnuts until they are smooth and creamy. Meanwhile let the dates soak in the milk for about 5 - 10 minutes. Once your hazelnut butter is ready, add all other ingredients and mix until smooth.

3. Middle-eastern spiced sunflower seed butter

What you will need to mix:

- 1 cup of sunflower seeds - 1 teaspoon Ras el Hanout spice mix - 1/2 teaspoon salt - 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil - 1 tablespoon water

4. Chai spice blend cashew butter

What you will need to mix:

- 1 cup of cashews - 1 teaspoon ginger powder - 1 teaspoon cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon clove powder - 1/2 cup of raisins

For the best result, mix cashews until they are smooth and creamy, then blend in all remaining ingredients. If you like bites of raisins in your butter, fold them in at the end with a spatula.

5. Coffee, cardamon and walnut butter

What you will need to mix:

- 1 cup of walnuts - 1 teaspoon of finely ground cardamon - 1 tablespoon maple syrup - 1 tablespoon instant coffee powder

6. Blueberry tartlet butter

What you will need to mix:

- 1 cup of cashews - 1/2 cup of blueberries - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract - 1 tablespoon maple syrup
